The Professional Learning Network for Arvada West High School will guide parents through high school and help them better understand their child(ren) and what their school's expectations are.
Dear Wildcat Families, We want to welcome you to Arvada West High School and the Wildcat Family! We are very excited for the upcoming year and can’t wait for you to experience what it means to be an Arvada West Wildcat. At Arvada West High School our Mission is to prepare all students to think critically and interact responsibly as global citizens.
We understand that we are no longer guiding our students to the world that only consists of what is outside our building, but we are preparing them to live in a world outside of the area, the state, and the country. Our economy prospers on the global level and Awest’s vision is to develop and graduate students with the skills to make choices that contribute positively to society and be prepared for future opportunities while maintaining respect for self and others.
In order to prepare our students for their futures, whatever their futures might hold, the staff has committed to building relationships as well as community here at Arvada West. They have committed to creating a welcoming and safe learning environment evidenced by a courteous presence in the hallway and a commitment to building positive relationships in our classrooms as well as having conversations with our students that celebrate growth so that as a school community we focus less on grades and more on learning.
Arvada West High School has a rich history which includes twenty-three state championships and a choir program which serves nearly 340 students that sing in 10 vocal ensembles. AWest’s choirs have performed at 12 National, Regional, and State MEA and ACDA Music Conferences since 2009. We offer programming in computer science as well as STEM and our clubs and activity groups offer over sixty-five different interest choices.
We understand you are giving us access to your most prized possession and we will work with you, as a team, in creating a well-rounded, educated, and successful child. In the pages that follow, we have given you a brief overview of our school policies and procedures, our most important dates, and other needed information to help guide you through the year. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child(ren) and please let us know what more we can do in creating the best learning environment for your child(ren).
Sincerely,
Shaylyn De Long Arvada West High School Principal sdelong@jeffco.k12.co.us 303-982-8734
